Employer Rights and Responsibilities Topics at May Labor Management Seminars
PIERRE, S.D. –Employee handbook tips and information employers need to know about sick leave, vacation time, personal leave and other time off are among topics to be addressed during Labor Management Seminars sponsored by the South Dakota Retailers Association (SDRA). The seminars, slated for May 8, 9, and 10, will cover key labor law issues that impact every employer including answers to frequently asked employment law questions.
The workshops will be held in Aberdeen, Mitchell and Rapid City, and are designed for business owners, managers, supervisors and human resources personnel.
The seminars will feature a presentation by employment law attorney Christopher Hoyme, a partner in the Omaha office of Jackson Lewis, PC labor law firm and member of the South Dakota Bar. “I look forward to providing attendees practical, in-person education and advice,” Hoyme stated. “This is a great opportunity for South Dakota employers of all sizes to learn and ask questions.”
Hoyme will dive into both politics and social media in the workplace – two hot button issues in today’s world. He’ll answer questions on establishing different policies for different employees and walk through the risks and rewards of making exceptions to company policies. The day will be loaded with crucial information and a great way for employers to get specific questions answered.
The Attorney General’s office will also present information on the new state data breach reporting law going into effect July 1 and what businesses need to do to be in compliance.
The seminars are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. local time:
- Tuesday, May 8 at the Dakota Event Center in Aberdeen
- Wednesday, May 9 at the Highland Conference Center in Mitchell
- Thursday, May 10 at the Comfort Suites Hotel & Convention Center on Elk Vale Road in Rapid City
